Pinewood
Remember, the object of the race is fun for the scouts. The
construction of the car is a teaming opportunity for the boys and
an opportunity for the parents to participate in an activity with
them. The scouts should be involved with every stage of the car
construction and do as much of the work as possible.
All cars must pass inspection to quality for the race. No
exceptions allowed.
1. Inspection Points
* Car must not have been previously raced in district
competition.
* Overall width shall be 2 3/4 inches.
* Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
* Height shall not exceed 2.75 inches.
* Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
* Axles, wheels, and body wood shall be as provided by kit. Axles
and wheels may not be shaved or altered in any way. You may
smooth the molding joints on the wheels, but no sanding thinner.
You must use the axle slots provided.
* Wheel bearings, washers and bushings are prohibited.
* The car shall not ride on any type of springs.
* Details added by the builder must be within the length, width
and weight limits.
* The car must be free wheeling with no starting devices.
* No loose materials or adjustable weights of any kind are
allowed in the car.
* Any numbers used on car must be kit decals only.
* The wheel base of the kit may not be altered.
* Only graphite may be used to lubricate the axles.
* Clearance under the car must be 3/8 inch to clear the lane
center guide.
* No graphite will be allowed on the outer rim of the wheel (in
contact with the track).
* Cars found to be in violation of above rules can be
disqualified.
2. All cars will be weighed and measured before racing. Come
prepared to alter the weight or size of your car, if needed.
Limited tools will be available at race site.
3. Each car will be raced in each lane once.
4. Race officials will place the cars on the table, and Judge the
placement (lst, 2nd, 3rd).
5. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, interferes
with another car, loses an axle, etc., the heat will be started
again. If the car needs repair in order for it to run, a few minutes
will be given and the car must be reweighed to verify it meets the rules.
If the same car gets into trouble on the second run, the
contestant is automatically disqualified. If on the second run
another car is interfered with, the heat wi11 be run again, but
without the disqualified car.
6. The Cub Scout must be present to race his car.

for more detailed information on building your car.
